UCSB Student Michael Aling Awarded Churchill Scholarship

UCSB College of Engineering student Michael Aling has been named as a recipient of the highly prestigious Churchill Scholarship, which funds a year of graduate level research and study in a STEM discipline at the Churchill College, University of Cambridge.

Field of Study: Mechanical Engineering (major) / Physics (minor)
Graduate Program: Physics MPhil by Research (Quantum Materials)
Career Goal: Leading role in development of new scientific apparatuses across multiple fields, with benefit of Mechanical Engineering foundation.
Mentors: Stephen D. Wilson, Julian L. Schmehr, Ryan Need, Dave Bothman

 
Michael’s unique research achievements previously earned him campus nomination and final selection in the Goldwater Scholarship competition, as featured in the UCSB Current article. Of the 16 students selected nationally, Michael is this year’s sole Churchill Scholarship recipient within the UC system.
